Arm & Leg Pain

What causes arm and leg pain?

The arms and legs are very complicated; they are involved in millions of movements every day and are essential to most of us. Injuries can happen easily; pulled muscles, broken bones, and dislocations are common enough. However, many people don’t realize that the spinal cord aligned with these limbs is just as important in providing the movement we use so often. Because all nerves in the body originate from either the brain or the spinal cord, the bones of the spine play an important role in the protection of, and therefore the susceptibility of, the nerves which move and feel for the arms and legs. If there is a misalignment of bones or an inflammation of the nerves near the arms or legs chances are the pain will be felt in ends of the nerve branches, rather than at the source. In other words, a back, neck, or hip misalignment or injury can lead to serious pain and discomfort in the arms and legs.

Symptoms

Of course, the easiest symptom to recognize is pain in the limbs; however, due to the fact that this pain may be caused by an injury or misalignment in the spine, there are other symptoms to look for. Any one of the following is enough to seek care:

  • Pain in one or both arms

  • Pain in one or both legs

  • Numbness in hands or feet

  • Tingling in hands or feet

  • Weakness in the arms or legs

  • Loss of range of motion
